Comments: This collage is a compilation of postcards and thank you notes that have turned up on my desk lately.  

The handwritten was note from an especially challenging client at work that had plenty of criticism for my response to his request.   Needless to say, I was shocked to receive two-three months after our initial interaction and consider it a change in patterns of criticism. 

The bottom right corner is an image of chalk pastels, and is my reference to the inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal.

Comments:  I decided to focus more on the affirmation for this collage, rather than going to a store where I shop.  The meditating girl looks to me peaceful, calm, and centered.

Comments:  For the affirmation on this collage, I used sand collected from the beach in Florida in the 1970's and saved by my in-laws all these years.  I thought the smiley face worked for rewarding myself with thoughts of praise when I forgive easily.

Comments:  In my experience, it's true that there are times when only the dog can understand the joy and enthusiasm a woman can feel for a great pair of shoes.  While the man in her life only pokes his head in and tries to make sense of it all.

Comments: Though all the products in this collage are brand new, they possess an aged quality. 

 

Interesting perspective to view one's father as a loveless child and to forgive easily.  The candles symbolize a variation on my father's family name.  The forlorn little dog staring at his bottle of alcohol has significance as well.  The empty chair reminded me of a school child of another era who's told to go sit in the corner.

Comments:  I used here my numerological life path number of three.  The life path ties to date of birth in numerology and has a great deal to do with one’s purpose and the things that are to be learned in this life. 

I also included the traditional symbol of “familial ancestors”, the buffalo, and for this collage, the grandfather clock.  Thinking about parent’s limitations brings to mind their parent’s limitations and theirs before that.  It is safe for me to go beyond those limitations.  I am willing to forgive the past.

Comments:  Part of the process of trying new techniques is learning what doesn’t really work.  This one’s not my favorite collage visually, although I did enjoy contemplating the Emily Dickinson poem as spiritual food.

Comments:  Completed this collage as part of a two session Composition through Collage class at A Creative Art Studio in Denton, Texas.   Instructed by a gifted artist in her own right, Crystal Nelson.  Someday, maybe, I'll have her "eye" for composition.  Had fun learning new techniques, and enjoyed meeting interesting fellow classmates.  

The 10-word science fiction story (?), i.e. today's affirmation, was added digitally after class.
