Taking Down Walls

4/7/14
11x15 collage on paper

Taking Down Walls

Today's collage was inspired by a vivid dream I had... a visit from an old friend reminding me that there are solutions to every problem.
But putting up walls may not be the most productive way to solve them.

Day 343 No time for boring

Day 343 No time for boring
343:365
09/08/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I have plenty of time.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Make something boring seem exciting.

Media:  Calendar and Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Notebook paper

Time:  1H:20M

Comments:  I've often wondered about how something as (typically) boring as solid weave carpet can be made exciting in print ads.  For today's collage, I'm celebrating basket woven textiles in flowery colors, that puppies have decided to climb all over.   Funny how even boring things become exciting through the eyes of a puppy with plenty of time to explore.

Day 327 Speak and listen

Day 327 Speak and listen
327:365
08/23/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I speak positively with others and listen with compassion.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Create an alternate alphabet for a culture that never existed.

Media:  Sara Eyestone, Yoga puppies and Labrador puppies calendar photos, Magazine photo,  Tissue,  Mod Podge

Time:  1H:10M

Comments:  Today's alternate alphabet is one that makes up the ceiling of a space where big and little dogs both speak and listen positively and with compassion.

Day 315 Always in demand

Day 315 Always in demand
315:365
08/11/13

Louise Hay affirmation:
“My creativity is always in demand.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Create a clear version of something that’s normally not transparent.

Media:  Magazine photos, Yoga Puppies Calendar photo, Mod Podge, Jewel stickers, Glue pen

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  Today's collage reflects the creative work and efforts of many contributors.  From the interesting reflection of a shoe in transparent glass, to the yellow  lab puppy defying anatomy to pose in a one-armed handstand. to the varied textiles, natural and man-made materials, and advertising art from magazines.   Even in today's world dominated by advances in science and technology, creativity is always in demand.

Day 314 Dog's best friend

Day 314 Dog's best friend
314:365
08/10/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I think of my thoughts as my best friends.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Create a tattoo or something inspired by tattoos.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Calendar photo, Mod Podge, Glitter dot sticker

Time:  45M

Comments:  Dogs have long been considered 'man's best friend'.  Today's collage shares a new take on the theme with a yellow lab puppy thinking "of my thoughts as my best friends".
The tattoo on his/her arm is a butterfly, which represents change and transformation of old thoughts to their new form.

Day 312 Black as night

312:365
Day 312 Black as night
08/08/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am not here to control others.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Work only with black materials today.

Media:  Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:  50M

Comments:  Today's collage is a study in darkness and its relation to controlling others.  It's a personal struggle for me, at times, but I feel relief and release when I remember that I am not here to control others.

Day 306 A day at the beach

Day 306 A day at the beach
306:365
08/02/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Life is simple and easy.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   What can you do with a pad of sticky notes?

Media:  Sticky notes, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Glitter candy dots

Time:  1H

Comments:  Life that is simple and easy reminds me of a day at the beach. Perfect escape from another 100 degree day in August in Texas.

Day 277 Divine liberty

Day 277 Divine liberty
277:365
07/04/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am always divinely protected.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  If you could do or be anything in the world, what would you be?  Make something as if you were actually doing or being it.

Media:  Tissue paper, Magazine and calendar photos, Mod Podge

Time:  2H

Comments:  In honor of today's holiday, this collage features a furry gift that enjoys divine protection.  If I could be anything in the world, why not a cute puppy on Independence Day?

Day 129 Currency X-change

Day 129 Currency exchange

129:365
02/06/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Changing my thoughts makes me feel good.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make a passport, travel poster, monetary unit, or other item for a fictional country or another planet.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and book photos, Doodlers pad paper, tissue paper, Matte medium

Time: 2H:20M

Comments:  Wasn't especially inspired by today's exercise in the 365 book, so this one is a little iffy on the monetary unit I was going for.

Wound up thinking more about how changing my thoughts make me feel good, and even has the power to heal from the inside.  Like the dog in the center of the collage pondering his latest X-rays, the healing inside will eventually be visible.
