Homespun

05/17/15
11x15 collage on paper

Homespun
Picked up a secondhand Spirograph at an estate sale over the weekend.   Used to have one as a kid, so I thought I'd take a walk down memory lane for this collage.

Elephants Know

1/14/14
6x8 (2) collage and mixed media on paper

Elephants Know.1

Elephants Know.2

Today's collage is a 2 piece rumination on the beauty, wisdom and memory of elephants.
I liked the way the sunlight is glowing off the edge of the elephant's ear in the photo. Reminded me of the unique and ethereal nature of these beautiful beasts, and the unique and ethereal nature of the Light.

Color Advice

1/10/14
11x15 collage on paper, miniature pearls

Color Advice
Today's collage is inspired by a hand-written note I found in a box of my Grandmother's effects, that talks about "Colors for Mature Women".  I never knew her to be one that pondered such things, but finding this note gave me new insight into the complexities of grandmothers--- regardless of who our childhood memories told us they were.

House of Perception - The Back of My House

10/4/13

As a treat-to-self and celebration of the culmination of my 365 Day Project,
I found a meetup group for creatives in the Dallas area (Express Yourself Artistically) and joined a class called,

We made a 'house of perception' based on the five senses, using several intuitive exercises and a guided meditation.  Great day and several fun, talented and artistic women in class.   Artfully led by Rosemary.

Here's my final collage from that day.

Back of House

The Back of My House
During class I found a hand-made sticker with flowers, a sun, and my name on it. Since there weren't names on any of the other materials we had to work with in class, I figured it was "meant to be" and used it for my house.  Found out later it was made by our instructor, Rosemary's, sister during another art class... prior to her sister's passing.  For a moment it was melancholy in the room, but then I felt delighted and privileged for happening across such a precious item.  I get to enjoy a colorful symbol of light and life, and Rosemary got to have a good memory of her sister and their time together.

Day 37 Stapled memory

037:365
11/06/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Intelligence, courage, and self-worth are always present.  It is safe to be alive.” (amnesia)
Day 37 Stapled memory

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something with a stapler.

Media:  Magazine photo, auction catalog photo of Mario Merz “8 case” painting, staples, glue stick.

Time:   40M

Comments:  Ran across this brain picture on the internet one day and liked it. Seemed a fitting image when thinking about how the mind works to retain memory, or not. The background painting by Mario Merz made me think of how we sometimes try to pinpoint dangling threads of thought in the recesses of our minds.
