Day 96 Mirrored imagery

Louise Hay affirmation:   “ I am always Divinely protected and guided.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Work backward.  Work in front of a mirror.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Matte medium, Post-production text via computer

Time:  1H:10M

Comments:  Played with reflected motifs in this collage.  Not true mirror images, but you get the idea.

Day 95 Plowman style

095:365
Day 95 Plowman style
01/03/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I trust God, knowing that whatever I need to know is revealed to me, and that whatever I need comes to me in the right time, space, and sequence.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Ask a stranger for a suggestion of what to do today.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Notebook paper, Graph paper, Fabric patterns, Paint manufacturer's poster, Mod Podge, Watercolor pencils

Time:   2H

Comments:  The Collage Workbook was recommended to me a while back.  Thought I'd pay homage to the style of its author in this collage. (In fact, the two Mona Lisa reproductions near the center are his.)  Found myself receiving all kinds of "suggestions of what to do today" by a talented artist who's been at it longer than I, and possesses a great deal of sophistication and skill in his work.  I hope at some point to have a hint of creativity and 'eye' that he demonstrates.

Day 94 An orange by any other name

094:365
01/02/13

Day 94 An orange by any other name
Louise Hay affirmation:   “I open myself to the wisdom within, knowing that there is only One Intelligence in the Universe, with all the answers, all the solutions, all the healings, all the creations.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Nothing rhymes with orange.  Work only with orange materials today.

Media:  Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:   1H:30M

Comments:  Exploring ideas about eye-popping poppies... doesn't rhyme with orange.

Day 93 Restored hardware

093:365
Day 93 Restored hardware
01/01/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I believe in a power far greater than I am that flows through me every moment of every day.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Nuts and bolts.  Make something with any nuts, bolts, screws, or nails you have.

Media:  Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:  1H:10M

Comments:  Was thinking about the hardware required to make furniture.  Surely a power greater than I am flows through the hands and minds of fine craftsmen.  Both historic and modern... Or modern made to look historic.  Restoration Hardware seems to have this figured out if the riveted lounge chair is any indicator.

Day 92 Good news for the new year

092:365
Day 92 Good news for the new year
12/31/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “In my life, all is perfect, whole, and complete, and yet life is ever changing.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Write a letter to yourself at another time in your life (past or future).

Media:  1963 Fort Worth Star Telegram, Scrapbook paper, Trace paper, Parchment, Metallic Sharpie, Wax seal, Mod Podge

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  Rounded out the year, and my first three full months of this collage-a-day project, with a letter to myself using today's affirmation.

Used the back page of a Nov. 23, 1963 newspaper for the background.  Funny how many things in the paper reflected aspects of me today.
  • Furniture ads and Building Made Easy articles (much of my career focus),
  • Eyeglass ads (I just grudgingly bought a new pair of reading glasses and had to work hard for a good price on the no-frills models),
  • Christmas craft project articles (just coming out of two weeks off work during the holidays where I got to focus on art projects that I normally don't have time for),
  • Great deals and discounts (one of my joys in life),
  • Mattress ads (restful sleep eludes me more than I care to admit),
  • An article about how Rep. Jim Wright was revealing corruption and abuse in the Interstate Highway building project in Texas.  (I met him once in the 80's, and remember that he put me off by denegrating 'tree huggers' in our brief conversation.  Came across as a closed minded, arrogant, and elitist politician.  Nice to see that he was out there fighting corruption and injustice in the public trust in his earlier years.  Maybe I just caught him on a bad day.)
If all those aspects of my life today can be stated as perfect, whole, and complete, then I guess the new year will hold some interesting insights for me too.

Day 91 Map my route

091:365
12/30/12
Day 91 Map my route

Louise Hay affirmation:   “All is well in my world.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Use dry coffee beans, dry or wet coffee grounds or even liquid coffee to create something today.

Media:  Texas map, Magazine photo, Mod Podge, Coffee

Time:   1H:55M + coffee drying time

Comments:  Played with scale a bit with the horizontal strips of map wallpaper in the photo and the horizontal strips of background map that I added.  Love the simplicity of the airplane toy on the classic orange, wood chair in the image.   Learned that coffee doesn’t soak well through Mod Podge.  Need to add it before sealing the surface.

Day 90 Pinata in 2d

Day 90 Pinata in 2d
090:365
12/29/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Every moment of life is a new beginning point as I move from the old.  This moment is a new point of beginning for me right here and right now.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make a pinata and destroy it.

Media:  Balloon, Holiday placemats, Papier Mache, Candy wrappers, Mod Podge

Time:   1H:30M making the pinata + overnight drying time.  1H:30M making the collage.

Comments:  Thought I ought to take a shot at papier mache since I gave it a pass in an earlier collage.
Can't say this pinata is especially nice to look at.  And it would never have held up to anyone hitting it with a stick, but I gave it a shot.  Here's to new beginnings and trying something different.

Day 89 Mind bubbles

Day 89 Mind bubbles
089:365
12/28/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I rejoice in the knowledge that I have the power of my own mind to use in any way I choose.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Work only with bubble wrap or any other packing materials you have on hand.

Media:  Handmade paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Bubble wrap, Glue stick

Time:   1H

Comments:  I love the cactus planters on feet that make the plants look like brains in this collage.  Also found a way to use an experimental masked watercolor paper that I wasn't crazy about.  Having simple hints of color visible through the translucent packing material seems to work.

Day 88 In a pear tree

088:365
12/27/12

Day 88 In a pear tree

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am one with the very Power that created me, and this Power has given me the power to create my own circumstance.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something only using stuff from your workplace or office.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:   1H:15M

Comments:  Spent the day at a Korean-inspired spa/sauna as a Christmas gift with the family.  Got me thinking about the yin yang symbol of two as one, and thought that worked nicely with today's affirmation.

Day 87 Lighted steps

087:365
12/26/12

Day 87 Lighted steps
Louise Hay affirmation:   “Life is never stuck or static or stale, for each moment is ever new and fresh.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   What can you do with a candle?

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and catalog photos, Mod Podge, Wax seal, Metallic Sharpie

Time:   1H:15M

Comments:  Liked the combination of pine cones and candle lanterns leading up to the door of the house in this photo.  Classic winter combination.
