The Ultimate Future

10/11/13
12x9 Mixed Media Collage

The Ultimate Future
Chameleon

Today's collage, on the subject of setting goals, is a bright Chameleon in a wild purple setting with a message for my future.  This card, in a deck of Animal Messages cards by Susie Green, turned up when I spent time today thinking about my ultimate future as I look for new creative direction.

According to the card, chameleon represents both beauty and the bizarre.  He/she fascinates and bewitches.  Brings a message that rare energies surround me.  And I possess senses beyond the normal five- psychic communication, awareness of auras and vibration of energies. Much the way chameleon changes color as an expression of his feelings in certain situations, he also tells me that others need to know how I feel.

Day 295 I see prosperity everywhere

Day 295 I see prosperity everywhere
295:365
07/22/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I see prosperity everywhere and rejoice in it.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Write a letter to a fictional character.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Doily paper, Journal page, Ribbon, Gem sticker

Time:  1H

Comments:  The letter to self in today's collage reminds me that I can choose to see abundance in all things.  Thought the golden, throne of a chair expressed an air of royalty in its gilded upholstery.  The fictional Me might enjoy such a fancy vantage point for viewing prosperity everywhere, though the actual Me is usually content with more simple seating choices.

Day 275 Trust it to be there

Day 275 Trust it to be there
275:365
07/02/13

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Use your pocket change to make something worth more than what you could buy with it.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:  1H

Comments:  Today's collage is an homage to pocket change in all it's many forms.

Comments:  Today's checkerboard collage features some interesting chairs as playing pieces.  I trust the process of life.

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Make alternative labels for things in your home and apply or use them.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Sharpie

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  Today's collage is simple and to the point.  I am.

Day 216 Nature takes time

Day 216 Nature takes time

216:365
05/04/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I have plenty of time.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Create an image using any light source in your home.

Media:  Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:  1H:10M

Comments:  Designed to appeal to younger patients, the shadow puppet image of a squirrel on the right side of this collage is a play of light on a wall at a children's hospital.  It also reminds me of my encounters with 'wildlife' today.  Squirrels on the back porch and cats in a neighbor's yard, staring at our human/dog caravan as we walked in the neighborhood after dinner.

This collage also studies wood grains and visual textures.  I liked the silhouettes of human faces on the left side where the clock face sits.   We spend so much of our time worried about time.  It's good to be reminded that interesting design takes time, quality crafted furniture takes time, Nature takes time to grow trees to make beautiful woods, and to bloom sunflowers.  I have plenty of time.

Day 165 Dressed for success

03/14/13

Day 165 Dressed for success

Louise Hay affirmation:
“I have within me all the ingredients for success.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Transform a piece of furniture into something other than what it’s meant for.
Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Sharpies, Glue Stick, Post-it note

Time:  1H

Comments:  Furniture as runway model while adoring fans look on...  I've been wondering if I'd ever get a chance to use that chair photo I clipped a while back from a magazine ad.  The artist that came up with it in the first place, in my opinion, has a creative spark that is definitely one of the ingredients for success.

Day 157 Karma's a chihuahua

157:365
Day 157 Karma's a chihuahua
03/06/13

Louise Hay affirmation:
“I love myself; therefore, I behave and think in a loving way to all people, for I know that which I give out returns to me multiplied.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something that’s strong enough to support your own weight and stand on it.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Tissue paper

Time:  2H

Comments:  That which I give out comes back to me multiplied.

Sadly, that one keeps me up at night sometimes.  Still, one of the points of this project is to think about positive and affirming thoughts every day in hopes that, eventually, old patterns are released and new ones take hold.

Today, work situations provided ample chances for me to demonstrate that I’ve experienced growth in this area.  Fun.

Day 130 The Vacant Chair

130:365
02/07/13
Day 130 The Vacant Chair

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am learning to choose to make today a pleasure to experience.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Pick a piece of music you love (or hate) and use it as the inspiration for today’s piece.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photo, Music paper from The Civil War Songbook, Watercolors,  Matte medium

Time:   1H

Comments:  The music I chose for this collage was from an old songbook I had called The Civil War Songbook.  Thought the title played well with an image of a classic, yet contemporary, lounge chair from a recent design magazine.

"Aged" the whole thing with watercolors to give the appearance of a Civil War era artifact.  Wonder how many people learned to choose to make today a pleasure in 1865 when this music was first composed and sung?  And when so many chairs sat vacant at home?

Day 127 Classic joys

127:365
Day 127 Classic joys
02/04/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “It is with joy that I learn to love myself more and more.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Mail art. Take an existing postcard and alter it.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Postcard, Vellum Grid paper, Matte medium, Foil paper

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  The blue postcard featured in this collage has a furniture theme and was part of the Herman Miller showroom at Neocon (international tradeshow for the design and furniture industries) in Chicago a couple years ago.  I used mid-century classics in the furniture photos to reflect on the Joy that is good design.

Day 116 Thawed thoughts

116:365
01/24/13
Day 116 Thawed thoughts

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Thoughts no longer have any power over me.
I choose to be free.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Create something using an old map or something that ends up looking like a map.

Media:  Map from National Geographic, Magazine photos, Matte medium, Postage stamp

Time:  1H:10

Comments:  I enjoyed the contrast between the two chairs in this collage.  The one on ice represents how thoughts can freeze us or hold us prisoner; the other  represents freedom and stability with whimsy and style.  Has a bit of a tropical/nautical flair with the caning and coral back cushion that I liked for a collage with a map (travel) background.

Not to get too political, but I also liked the Cuban postage stamp.  It worked with both the color scheme, and the concept of people choosing to be free.

Day 99 Viewpoint from the back of the chair

099:365
Day 99 Viewpoint from the back of the chair
01/07/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “It is safe for me to enlarge my viewpoint of life .”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Use the world of insects as your inspiration today.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine & Catalog photo, Matte medium, Metallic Sharpie

Time:   1H

Comments:  Tried to keep it simple and clean on this collage, like the lines of this chair.  And the silhouette of the insect enjoying his or her perch.
