Day 133 A bug's life

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am filled with love and affection.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something surreal.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and Catalog photos, Map, Modge Podge

Time:  2H:15M

Comments:  Ran across the insect creatures featured in this collage in a RAZ Imports catalog and loved the surreal nature of their happy little world.

The green cabinet looks like a green apple with a few bites taken out. Perfect munching for odd little creatures.

Day 132 GIVE

02/09/13
Day 132 GIVE

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am joyous, happy, and free.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Create something on a t-shirt.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Tracing paper, Modge Podge

Time:  55M

Comments:   Was wearing my Blood Donor t-shirt today, so I decided to use it as inspiration for today's collage.

The large, simple "Give" emblem has a nice tie-in to the affirmation.  We give joy, happiness, and freedom to ourselves and to others.  Whether it's through giving blood, or giving of ourselves, giving a gift, or giving away our limiting thoughts and beliefs for something different.

Day 131 Totally healthy
02/08/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am totally healthy.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal: Make a word out of objects in your environment or with letters found in natural formations outside.

Media:  Tissue paper, Magazine photos, Matte medium

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  There are many aspects of total health that are represented in the background of this collage.  I used bright and energetic colors in the words to reinforce a message of vibrancy and vitality.

Day 130 The Vacant Chair

02/07/13
Day 130 The Vacant Chair

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am learning to choose to make today a pleasure to experience.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Pick a piece of music you love (or hate) and use it as the inspiration for today’s piece.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photo, Music paper from The Civil War Songbook, Watercolors,  Matte medium

Time:   1H

Comments:  The music I chose for this collage was from an old songbook I had called The Civil War Songbook.  Thought the title played well with an image of a classic, yet contemporary, lounge chair from a recent design magazine.

"Aged" the whole thing with watercolors to give the appearance of a Civil War era artifact.  Wonder how many people learned to choose to make today a pleasure in 1865 when this music was first composed and sung?  And when so many chairs sat vacant at home?

Day 129 Currency X-change

Day 129 Currency exchange

129:365
02/06/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Changing my thoughts makes me feel good.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make a passport, travel poster, monetary unit, or other item for a fictional country or another planet.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and book photos, Doodlers pad paper, tissue paper, Matte medium

Time: 2H:20M

Comments:  Wasn't especially inspired by today's exercise in the 365 book, so this one is a little iffy on the monetary unit I was going for.

Wound up thinking more about how changing my thoughts make me feel good, and even has the power to heal from the inside.  Like the dog in the center of the collage pondering his latest X-rays, the healing inside will eventually be visible.

Day 128 Waiting for gems

02/05/13
Day 128 Waiting for gems

Louise Hay affirmation:   “The more resentment I release, the more love I have to express.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Write a ten-word autobiography.  Illustrate it.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Matte medium, Tissue paper

Time:   50M

Comments: Was thinking about how releasing of resentments can feel like discovery of jewels along the path... once we figure out how to let them go.

I also liked the little dog sitting on the stairs in this collage, and imagine him/her waiting for his owner to come home.  Lots more love to express.

Day 127 Classic joys

127:365
Day 127 Classic joys
02/04/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “It is with joy that I learn to love myself more and more.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Mail art. Take an existing postcard and alter it.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Postcard, Vellum Grid paper, Matte medium, Foil paper

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  The blue postcard featured in this collage has a furniture theme and was part of the Herman Miller showroom at Neocon (international tradeshow for the design and furniture industries) in Chicago a couple years ago.  I used mid-century classics in the furniture photos to reflect on the Joy that is good design.

Day 126 Lemons and forgiving

126:365
Day 126 Lemons and forgiving
02/03/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “It is easier for me to forgive than I thought.  Forgiving makes me feel free and light.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Make something that can fly.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and catalog photos, Matte medium, Tissue paper

Time:  1H:20M

Comments:   Listened to an interesting podcast on Lemon essential oil as I sat down to work on today's collage.  In addition to generally smelling fresh and clean, it has a multitude of health-giving qualities.  It's benefits are both emotional (uplifting and improving concentration) and physical (clearing of toxins in the liver- the seat of anger and unforgiveness).   Forgiving makes me feel free and light, just like the scent of lemon.

Just an fyi... Lemon's been known to have properties that are:  antitumoral, antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, astringent, anti-inflammatory, immune stimulant, diuretic, digestive, expectorant, calming.  Diffusing lemon oil can even clear pneumonia according to Heather A. Howell on the audio program.  Who knew?

Day 125 Triangulated joy

Day 125 Triangulated joy
125:365
02/02/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I move from the old to the new with ease and with joy.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Triangulate. Only work with triangle shapes today.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Shrinky Dink of hand sketch with Sharpie, Copy paper, Watercolor, Matte medium

Time:   1H:30M

Comments:  The dogs featured in this triangle-based collage are a Shrinky Dink version of a sketch I just completed for marketing North Texas Basset Hound Rescue's Benefit Auction, the Bone Soiree Gala, coming up on April 14 at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine   This year's theme is “Bark Around the Clock”.  If you live in the Dallas, Texas area, it's a fun event to attend and supports a great cause.

Day 124 Change is going swimmingly

Day 124 Change is going swimmingly

124:365
02/01/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am willing to change. I choose to change my thinking. I choose to change the words I use.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something seem like it is passing through a wall or other solid material that it normally wouldn’t or couldn’t.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine & Catalog photos, Matte medium

Time:  1H:10M

Comments:  This collage is about mixing things that don't normally go together and having them pass through objects and spaces they normally wouldn't.  A lot like the process of change itself.
