Robin red

2/15/14
11x15 collage on paper

Robin red

Today's collage was inspired by a flock of red-breasted robins in a neighbor's yard last evening as I was walking my dogs. The temperature pushing its way over 60 and the sun emerging again must have coaxed these little beauties out of their winter hiding places for a little fun.

Toucan too

2/12/14
8x10 collage on paper

Toucan too

Love the colors in this fellow and his wild yet peaceful countenance. I'm also intrigued by the animal message he delivers in light of the news of the day that the company I work for will soon be facing another round of layoffs.

The toucan represents communication and showmanship. The toucan's colorful appearance and large bill indicates a strong desire to be seen and heard. When the toucan appears as a totem it is likely time for you to step forward out of the shadows and stand in the lime light for awhile. If you have difficulty speaking in public toucan medicine can help clear and heal throat chakra blockages. The toucan may appear whenever you are craving attention, helping you to sort out why you are feeling this way. Toucan can boost your self-esteem. Toucan carries the energy of the class-clown with its antics and loud noises. If you have a clowning personality that you use to cloak insecurities, the toucan totem is mirroring your behavior to show you that it is safe to take off the mask and reveal your true self.

Connotes Paradise and Peace
Toucans can symbolize blooming partnership/companionship. It could also refer to relaxation and peace. It lends importance to teamwork and family and is a warning of impending death.

Thinking About Thinking

2/11/14

Thinking About Thinking

Was pondering the nature of thoughts today and how they can be an illusion. Today’s collage is a take off on the idea of a shadow man that walks through the mind and creates his own mysterious truth.  Is the constantly shifting illusion of truth even something that we can fully understand in this life?  What's the real truth?  Am I being honest with myself right now?  Thanks, Darkness Radio, for giving me things to think about while I work.

How much is too much?

How Much Is Too Much?

Thinking about the sweetness of chocolate-covered cherries and trying not to let the knowledge of how much sugar is contained in the real thing hamper my enjoyment of this one.

New Jerusalem

2/2/14
30x42 acrylic on canvas

New Jerusalem

Nothing like a little quiet time on Super Bowl Sunday to get some creative work done. Guessing that's not the most popular way to spend the day, but I'll call it a win since I finally completed this project.

Little different subject matter for me, but this piece has been in my head, and partially on canvas, for a while now.  Daydreaming in church one Sunday, I couldn't help noticing how the description of the New Jerusalem in Revelations 21 sounds a lot like an ET spaceship coming down to Earth.  Others might tell me I've watched too many Ancient Aliens episodes?  Eerie tidbit, I've been seeing 44's everywhere I look lately. I learned (or was reminded) that each side of the 'city' that descends from heaven is 144 cubits long, wide, and high. Another 44 to keep me guessing.

Play Well

1/29/14
11x15 collage on paper

Play Well

Today's collage was inspired by my two basset hounds that love to play with the same stuffed monkey.  As far as I can tell, the game is playful between the two.  Just a constant exchange of ownership in their silent game of 'Mine'.   They have several other toys to choose from individually, not sure why the monkey captivates them so.  Would be nice if humans were able to negotiate similar games of shared , friendly, temporary possession.
