Day 149 FLOR's floors

Day 149 FLOR's floors
02/26/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:
“I love who I am and all that I do.  I am the living, loving, joyous expression of life.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Work with all the utensils you own today.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and catalog photos, Mod Podge, Zots, Cardboard

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  Liked the rich colors and artistic themes in a recent issue of Flor's consumer carpet tile catalog... almost as much as I like their product.  Paint colors, lipstick colors, carpet colors all work in harmony in this collage to create a joyous expression of life.

For a female interior designer and artist, these are the basic utensils of daily living.

Day 148 Purple adventure

Day 148 Purple adventure

148:365
02/25/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:   “I look forward with enthusiasm to the adventure of the day, knowing that in my life, All is Good.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Work only with purple materials today.

Media:  Magazine and Catalog photos, Mod Podge

Time:  1H:20M

Comments:  Chose a deep purple to work with in this collage.  And a dog that's so dark, he could be mistaken for a blackberry.  Even though alligators may be just below the surface, in the adventure of his day, All is Good.

Day 147 Gratitude and red staplers

147:365
Day 147 Gratitude and red staplers
02/24/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:   “My day begins with gratitude and joy.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something inspired by your favorite movie.

OFFICE SPACE

Media:  Office plan blueprint, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Tissue paper, Sharpie, Watercolors, Button

Time:  55M

Comments:  Not sure if I have a 'favorite'  movie, but there is one that I can sit through whenever I run across it on rerun television.  Office Space.  The iconic red stapler, the waitress' buttons of flair on her vest, and the bleak, fluorescent, cubicle-dwelling existence of the office workers are poignant symbols of work and life in an age of low wage service jobs, open office environments, computers and broken laser printers. And, human cogs in the anonymous wheels of American mega-corporations.

Feeling gratitude and joy at the beginning of each day on the treadmill that is modern day work/life can some days be challenging... But not impossible.

Inspired  by this movie, I keep a red Swingline stapler in my drawer at work that reminds me to be grateful that I'm gainfully employed, and to help me keep a humorous perspective on things.  Besides, there is something inherently joyful about a bright red stapler in a drawer full of otherwise boring and bland office supplies.

Day 146 Joyous leaps in learning

Day 146 Joyous leaps in learning

146:365
02/23/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:
“I reinforce that which I learn in joyous ways.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Create a visual definition for a word chosen randomly from a dictionary.

JOYOUS

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and brochure photos, Fabric pattern tissue, Matte medium, Mod Podge

Time:  50M

Comments:  Took a beginners  ballet class for adults once and felt a little more like a dancing Disney elephant (Fantasia) than the joyous, leaping Chinese ballerinas (Shen Yun Performing Arts) in this collage.

Learned in class that practice and repetition are critical to learning the fundamentals of dance.   Today, I'm learning that practice and repetition are critical to learning the fundamentals of Joyous living.

Day 145 The Law of Dog

145:365
02/22/13
Day 145 The Law of Dog

Louise Hay daily affirmation:   “I see evidence of the Law working all around me and in every area of my life .”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something incongruous.  Use an unexpected material to make something familiar.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Sharpie

Time:  50M

Comments:  For this collage light bulbs represent new ideas, dogs represent love and devotion, and visually interesting textures on paper represent creativity.  These are all evidence of the Law to my eyes.  Wonder if Louise Hay or anyone but me would agree that the Law involves our thoughts, creativity, and love?

Today's incongruity lies in the random things that people make to remind them of their long, low, furry friends.  A striped, dog-shaped pillow, balloon animals, a basset hound covered with wine bottle labels.

Day 144 Supporting myself

Day 144 Supporting myself

144:365
02/21/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:   “I support myself, and life supports me.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Use your feet as your hands and/or your hands as your feet as part of whatever you do today.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Paper Ruler, Graph vellum

Time:  40M

Comments:  At work today I had to do some field measuring of a conference room space that is in construction at my office.  Needed to send dimensions to our glass wall fabricator.

Found that, when you don't have extra help , it's easier to measure vertically up a wall if you hold the bottom of the tape measure against the wall with your foot as you hold the top with your hands.

Our room's not furnished yet, but I like the meeting room photo in this collage that features Coalesse seating.

Day 143 Goody, goody, gum drops

Day 143 Goody, goody, gum drops
143:365
02/20/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:
“It is a joy and a delight to plant new seeds, for I know these seeds will become my new experiences.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something in which the sense of taste is the essential component.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Metallic Sharpie

Time:  50M

Comments:  The sense of taste must come into play with this sweet treat.
(Not great for the blood sugar, but a definite feast for the eyes.)
Tying in today's affirmation... maybe the seeds to be planted could be vegetables instead of gum drops?

Day 142 New day, New me?

 142:365
02/19/13

Day 142 New day, New me?
Louise Hay daily affirmation:   “This is a new day.  I am a new me.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Cut holes in the pages of a magazine or book so that what you reveal beneath creates something new.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Catalog and magazine photos, Tissue paper, Mod Podge

Time:  1H:20M

Comments:  Sometimes the daily affirmations take some convincing to believe.  Can feel a little contrived and obscured behind the tissue paper of everyday life.... Much like the images inside the circles in this collage.  (They are  less legible than I envisioned in my head.)  Ironically enough, I've been feeling lately a bit like these images- a pig, a flower, and a couple of oddly shaped cherubs- obscured from clear view.

Had a chance to use the circle cutter that I received as a Christmas gift for this collage, though, so there is that.  Still looking for clearer view and trusting the process to get there.

Day 141 Birds of gratitude

Day 141 Birds of gratitude

141:365
02/18/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:   “I think differently.  I speak differently.  I act differently.  Others treat me differently.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin’s 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make a paper pop-up.

Media:  Scrapbook paper; Magazine photos; Poetry book pages:  Chickadee by Hilda Conckling and Down in the Hollow by Aileen Fisher; Graph paper; Mod Podge; Fabric pattern tissue

Time:   1H:30M

Comments:  The theme of this collage with its pop-up birds is an homage to Randel Plowman's work.   I recently ordered one of his 2013 collage  calendars and received an unexpected level of good customer service upon delivery of my order.  With much gratitude  and appreciation.

Day 140 Thinking about Art

Day 140 Thinking about Art
140:365
02/17/13

Louise Hay daily affirmation:   “My new world is a reflection of my new thinking.”

Inspiration exercise from Noah Scalin's 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Create a rebus.  A visual puzzle in which a combination of images and letters are combined with +/- symbols to lead the viewer to read specific words or phrases.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Modge Podge, Sharpie

Time:   2H

Comments:  Today's collage is a combination of symbols and words that make up the affirmation of the day.  Gnu is new.  A bench sitting on a super shiny floor is a reflection.  Mixed carvings of ancient marble busts and a futuristic robot symobolize thinking, both old and new, that comes together in the Artistic process.

Day 139 Wallpaper gone wild

Day 139  Wallpaper gone wild

139:365
02/16/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I use my affirmative thinking to create exactly what I want.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something that will decay over time.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Tissue paper, 1980’s Design Magazine photos, Modge Podge

Time:   1H:30M

Comments:  The bedroom photo in today's collage is from a 1980's interior design magazine.  It harkens back to the days when matching wallpaper and bedding were in vogue.  Overabundant prints on every room surface are a design trend that (fortunately for all of us) decayed over time.

As for today's affirmation, the outline of the bird next to a fence reminds me of the wood privacy fence we are currently working to replace after 20+ year of wear and tear (and decay).

We've found that at our house, working with contractors requires a lot of positive thinking and energy to create exactly what we want.  Have to keep eyes on the end goal and try not to let the details get the better of us.

Day 138 Pushing up daisies

Day 138 Pushing up daisies

138:365
02/15/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “My life is ever new.  Each moment of my life is new and fresh and vital.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something inspired by a fictional character.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Grid Vellum, Watercolors, Magazine and Catalog photos, Modge Podge

Time:   1H:30M

Comments:  My fictional character is a cartoon goon from a magazine ad that, in this case, is using his big hammer to push up pretty flowers.  Above the ground, all is new and fresh and vital.   Below, mysterious.

Day 137 Morning Valentine

137:365
Day 137 Morning Valentine
02/14/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am in the process of positive changes.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Look at the morning sky when you first get up today and make something inspired by what you see.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Brown paper bag, Magazine photos, Candy packaging, Mod Podge

Time:   45M

Comments:  Valentine’s Day and my morning started with a sweet gift.  Puppy themed greeting card, strawberries, and heart-shaped box of chocolates to start the day.
