Day 90 Pinata in 2d

Day 90 Pinata in 2d
090:365
12/29/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Every moment of life is a new beginning point as I move from the old.  This moment is a new point of beginning for me right here and right now.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make a pinata and destroy it.

Media:  Balloon, Holiday placemats, Papier Mache, Candy wrappers, Mod Podge

Time:   1H:30M making the pinata + overnight drying time.  1H:30M making the collage.

Comments:  Thought I ought to take a shot at papier mache since I gave it a pass in an earlier collage.
Can't say this pinata is especially nice to look at.  And it would never have held up to anyone hitting it with a stick, but I gave it a shot.  Here's to new beginnings and trying something different.

Day 89 Mind bubbles

Day 89 Mind bubbles
089:365
12/28/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I rejoice in the knowledge that I have the power of my own mind to use in any way I choose.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Work only with bubble wrap or any other packing materials you have on hand.

Media:  Handmade paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Bubble wrap, Glue stick

Time:   1H

Comments:  I love the cactus planters on feet that make the plants look like brains in this collage.  Also found a way to use an experimental masked watercolor paper that I wasn't crazy about.  Having simple hints of color visible through the translucent packing material seems to work.

Day 88 In a pear tree

088:365
12/27/12

Day 88 In a pear tree

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am one with the very Power that created me, and this Power has given me the power to create my own circumstance.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make something only using stuff from your workplace or office.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:   1H:15M

Comments:  Spent the day at a Korean-inspired spa/sauna as a Christmas gift with the family.  Got me thinking about the yin yang symbol of two as one, and thought that worked nicely with today's affirmation.

Day 87 Lighted steps

087:365
12/26/12

Day 87 Lighted steps
Louise Hay affirmation:   “Life is never stuck or static or stale, for each moment is ever new and fresh.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   What can you do with a candle?

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and catalog photos, Mod Podge, Wax seal, Metallic Sharpie

Time:   1H:15M

Comments:  Liked the combination of pine cones and candle lanterns leading up to the door of the house in this photo.  Classic winter combination.

Day 86 Christmas cookies

086:365
12/25/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “There is no beginning and no end, only a constant cycling and recycling of substances and experiences.”

Day 86 Christmas cookies
Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Decorate a cake, pie, or cookie.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Placemat, Lickity strips, Tracing paper

Time:   1H:10M

Comments:  There seem to be endless kinds of Christmas cookies that can be made with the same basic recipe.   And, holiday baking each year is one of those recycled experiences that still brings joy.

Day 85 Simple Eve

Day 85 Simple Eve
085:365
12/24/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I lovingly allow joy to flow freely in my life.  I love me.” (viruses)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Work with words.  Make and image with just words or letters.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:   50M

Comments:  Thought about doing a Christmas Eve collage for today, but landed on a theme of simplicity instead.  Funny, though, "keep it simple" works as a great reminder to not get caught up in the frenzy of the holiday season...  So I guess I did a Christmas Eve collage after all.

Day 84 Artist impressions

084:365
Day 84 Artist impressions
12/23/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I open my heart and sing the joys of love.” (throat)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Keep it clean.  Use a bar of soap to make something new.

Media:  Newsweek magazine photos, Metallic gold acrylic paint, Gift wrap, Music paper, Mod Podge

Time:   1H:30M

Comments:  Used the imagery of classic artist impressions of Jesus from a recent Newsweek magazine for this collage.  Thought it was a good theme for meditation this Christmas season.
Didn't use soap as suggested in the Daily Creativity Journal, but remembered the verses of the Bible that talk about how Jesus washed away sins.

Day 83 Punny design

Day 83 Punny design
083:365
12/22/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “It is safe to see other viewpoints.” (stiff neck)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make a visual pun.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:  1H:50M

Comments: For the visual pun in this collage, I played around with the way that furniture, interior, and product designers and graphic artists have taken random products and made them look like candy store treats.

Day 82 Tools for preparing for the end of the world

082:365
Day 82 Tools for preparing for the end of the world
12/21/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I release all fears.  I now trust the process of life.  I know that life is for me.  I stand straight and tall with love.” (curved spine)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Create a new kind of utensil.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:   1H

Comments:  Today’s the end of the Mayan calendar, and a 26,000 year planetary alignment.  I started having anxiety attacks and nightmares about the world coming to an end starting a couple years ago.  Finally re-discovered the power of prayer and focus on ‘the light’ for vanquishing fear of the unknown. Also got some solace from listening to podcasts on the Ascension.  That’s my new kind of utensil in this collage.   So far today, we’re all still here.

Day 81 Harmonic convergence

Day 81 Harmonic convergence
081:365
12/20/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I declare peace and harmony indwell me and surround me at all times.  All is well.” (sinus problems)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Make something out of erasers.

Media:  Dog book photos, Mod Podge, Earth tone pastels, Pink Pearl eraser

Time:   1H:45M

Comments:   Liked the variations in noses between these two pooches. The bulldog is from a book published in the 1950's. The blood hound from a book of this decade. Each nose unique in its sinus structure, no doubt. I like that they appear to be engaging in a peaceful conversation.

Haven't used pastels in several years. Fun to revisit it as a medium.

Day 80 Safe at Sharon's feet

080:365
12/19/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am at peace with my own feelings.  I am safe where I am.  I create my own security.  I love and approve of myself.” (overweight)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Try dyeing!  Work with food or fabric dye.  Experiment with unconventional materials.

Media:  Dog photos, Mod Podge, Dinner napkins, Gift wrap, Recycled Christmas card, Trace paper, Sharpie, Music paper

Time:   4H

Comments:  Made this collage as a gift for friend and colleague at work.   Had fun playing around with a variety of materials.  Add the affirmation digitally to photo of the collage.

Day 79 Ticking time bomb of wonderful?

079:365
Day 79 Ticking time bomb of wonderful?
12/18/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I love and approve of myself.  I recognize my own true worth.  I am wonderful.” (nose bleed)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Walk through an alley or along a small road and pick up discarded materials to work with.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:   50M

Comments:  Like the juxtaposition of the improvised bomb floating on a soft, fluffy, girlie background.   The bomb looks like its made from some things you might find in an alley.  Had an experience that proved to be a test of this affirmation today.  Sometimes I feel like my mouth is the bomb.

Day 78 Jumping for joy

078:365
12/17/12

Day 78 Jumping for joy
Louise Hay affirmation:   “I move forward with confidence and joy, knowing that all is well in my future.” (lower leg)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Make up a name and write a back story for a stranger you see today.

Media:  Magazine photos, Map, Stamps, Parking ticket, Ruler, Mod Podge

Time:   50M

Comments:  This bounding pup is living confidence and joy in all his travels.  His excitement makes me happy.  No back story, he's too busy moving forward.

Day 77 Shredded abs

Day 77 Shredded abs
077:365
12/16/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I balance my masculine energy easily and effortlessly.” (right side)

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Work with shredded paper.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge, Postcard, Sharpie Metallic

Time:   1H:20M

Comments:  Lot of masculinity in this collage.  Not much shredded paper.
