Elephants Know

1/14/14
6x8 (2) collage and mixed media on paper

Elephants Know.1

Elephants Know.2

Today's collage is a 2 piece rumination on the beauty, wisdom and memory of elephants.
I liked the way the sunlight is glowing off the edge of the elephant's ear in the photo. Reminded me of the unique and ethereal nature of these beautiful beasts, and the unique and ethereal nature of the Light.

Day 286 Speaking of silence

Day 286 Speaking of silence
286:365
07/13/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I am at ease speaking in front of others. I have confidence in myself.

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Do something in which silence is an essential component.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Illustration from Sharon Peter's Puppet Show, Tissue paper, Mod Podge, Watercolors

Time:  1H:20M

Comments:  Owls are known for the silent way in which they sit in trees watching the world around them and stealthily glide through the air in search of their dinner.  They are also symbols of knowledge and wisdom for us.   I like the idea of having confidence when I speak in front of others because Owl has taught me to speak when I have wisdom to share.

Day 228 Balancing act

228:365
Day 228 Balancing act
05/16/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “Opportunities are everywhere.
I have unlimited choices.

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Work with the weights of things to create something that’s perfectly balanced on a small point.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine photos, Mod Podge

Time:  1H:15M

Comments:  Today's collage depicts the weighted dice that can feel like our lives, and the balancing act between the everyday smarts of man and the eternal wisdom of owl.

On the dice and in numerology, the 5 stands for change, which can be a distinctly challenging dimension to balance in life.  The robot fulcrum in the center is wearing some jauntily stacked lamp shades for a belt, and represents the cross between creative whimsy and tech gadgetry that props up our scales and makes us choose how we will balance ourselves.  I have unlimited choices.

Day 208 Inkblot wisdom

Day 208  Inkblot wisdom

208:365
04/26/13

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I experience love wherever I go.”

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:   Create a Rorschach test-style inkblot print.

Media:  Scrapbook paper, Magazine and Catalog photos, Mod Podge, Tissue Paper, Black India Ink

Time:  1H:30M

Comments:  For today's collage,
I experimented with several different inkblots and finally settled on the one shown here.

This inkblot  reminded me of an owl's head and also the shape of a mask.  Got to thinking about how experiencing love wherever I go sometimes takes a degree of wisdom, as symbolized  by the owl, and also an ability to see beyond the masks that I and others wear in daily life.

Day 31 Owls on the path to wisdom

031:365
10/31/12

Louise Hay affirmation:   “I stand tall and free.  I love and approve of me.  My life gets better every day.” (scoliosis)

Day 31 Owls on the path to wisdom

Inspiration exercise from 365 Daily Creativity Journal:  Make a path for people to follow and invite people to try it out.

Media:  Catalog and magazine photos, glue stick, glue pen

Time:   1H:20M

Comments:  Owls are symbols of wisdom in nature that are meaningful in a lot of ways.  We had the honor of sheltering three fledgling owls this spring under our back patio.  I took it as a sign from nature and the universe to seek wisdom and discernment at the time, as I grappled with some personal and career challenges.

In this collage, I was thinking that part of being tall and free has to do with wisdom gained as we follow our life's path and walk through the gates that appear before us along the way.
